As we were travelling through rural areas from Maine to Florida, I wanted to stop at Luray Caverns as I hadn’t been there since I was a kid. However, once we arrived, it looks more like Disney. We decided to not deal with the crowds and headed towards Blue Mountain Brewery in Afton , VA.
We already had visited 2 caverns on our way down, one in Pennsylvania and the other cavern in Tennessee.
However, we didn’t know we were headed to the brewery. We drove along the mountains looking for a nice place in the rural area of Afton, VA for a lunch break.
Sometimes, I would use my phone to find restaurants nearby. However, that didn’t always work out so well.
Along the way we passed some beautiful homes and new ones being built in the rural Virginia town.

There was quite a selection on the menu for both food and beer. It included a gluten free section as well as a kid’s menu.
You can choose from appetizers, salads, soups and sandwiches. They also feature burgers, pizza and desserts.
My husband and I both enjoyed the lunch food and took half back to the hotel for dinner that evening. I had a sandwich wrap with a very tasty soup. My husband had a burger and tested some of the beers while I drank a ginger ale.
We were able to chat with the manager for a while about the rural area and how things were around there. It seemed that higher home prices were everywhere on the East Coast but taxes are not as high as the New England States are.
